Juicing is one of the healthiest ways you can drink. You get nutrients from fruits and vegetables that can help improve overall health.

There are two kinds of juices that are making the rounds in fitness circles and health groups. They are aloe vera juice and cactus juice. The real question is, are these new discoveries in the line of healthy drinks worth the hype?

Aloe Vera Juice and Its Potential Benefits

Almost everyone is familiar with aloe vera. This is a very common houseplant with spiky leaves and a gooey substance inside. Around the world, people use aloe vera in the management of different kinds of ailments, including skin conditions like sunburn.

Aloe vera juice involves the grinding or the crushing of the aloe vera leaf. This undergoes substantial cleaning before getting processed into juice to make sure there are no contaminants in the resulting beverage.

While there are numerous studies about the health benefits of aloe vera, there is none, so far, that can support its benefits as a drink.

What we do know is that the plant contains a number of antioxidant vitamins like Vitamins A, C, and E. Aloe vera also contains amino acids, choline, folic acid, vitamin B12, and calcium. There are also anti-inflammatory compounds found in the plant.

There are anecdotes about how aloe vera juice can aid in digestion. In addition to the nutrients that aloe vera contains, it also has fibre.

The only issue is that juicing removes most of the fibres in the juice ingredients. No one knows how much fibre is present in aloe vera juice.

The antioxidants present in aloe vera can also promote healthier and more vibrant skin. Unfortunately, as far as aloe vera juice is concerned, there is no scientific evidence to support the claim.

Given the fact that aloe vera juice is a more or less new creation, it would take some time before the scientific community begins studying its health benefits in a more serious manner.

Until then, a glass or two of aloe vera juice once or twice a week should not hurt. After all, this is a juice that’s made of a plant known for its vitamins, minerals, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant content.

Cactus Juice and Its Potential Benefits

When we think of the cactus, we always think of that plant in the desert. What you need to know is that not all varieties of cactus can be made into juice. For cactus juice, only the prickly pear cactus will do.

This is a succulent that is indigenous to Mexico. Manufacturers of cactus juice use the fruit or the leaves of the plant. There are also manufacturers who use both.

There is very little research about the potential health benefits of cactus as a plant, let alone as a juice. What researchers know is that cactus plants contain vitamin C and flavonoids.

Vitamin C is an important nutrient in the production of a skin protein called collagen. Without Vitamin C, it will be difficult for the body to produce collagen. This can translate to skin problems.

Not only is Vitamin C important in skin health, it can also aid in enhancing the function of the immune system. In this regard, it works well as an antioxidant.

What you should know is that cactus also contains powerful antioxidant compounds known as flavonoids. Together, they can boost the body’s ability to fight infections.

What is surprising is that cactus can also contain calcium. We have this notion that only milk and dairy products are sources of calcium. If cactus can also deliver this mineral, then you can expect your bones and teeth to be healthier.

Like aloe vera juice, however, there are no researches or studies that will confirm these health benefits of cactus juice. We can only deduce from existing knowledge that cactus juice can also provide these benefits.

It is easy to think that both aloe vera juice and cactus juice are nothing more than a marketing ploy. However, it would not hurt to take a sip once in a while. These drinks pack some nutrients and antioxidants that can be beneficial to one’s health.
