Picture this – you’ve been on vacation and you’ve really enjoyed the food there. When you got back to the office, people started commenting on how fat you have become and how heavy you look.
Of course, not all people will be bothered by this. However, a good number of men and women are not comfortable with the thought of gaining and showing a few extra pounds they got.
So how do you get back on track? The answer to that is detox. Detoxification or cleansing is the process of eliminating toxins from the body. There are many ways to detoxify and some techniques aren’t applicable to everyone.
Nonetheless, the trick of detoxification is to consume more natural products like vegetables and fruits. You also need to limit or eliminate eating processed and junk food. If you want to learn more about different ways to cleanse while cutting down a few pounds, here are some tried and tested cleansing diets you could try.
1. Smoothie Diet
There are different kinds of detox smoothies that are easy to make. This method of detoxifying is great for people who are always on-the-go and who usually have no time to sit down for a meal.
A detox smoothie is made by chopping some fruits and vegetables and putting them all in a blender. After that, transfer it to a jug that you can easily bring wherever you go.
There are two recommended smoothies that you might want to try. The first is the green smoothie that is full of green vegetables and fruits.
All you have to prepare is one kiwi, a banana, a cup of water, 1/4 cup of pineapples, 2 celery stalks, and 2 cups of spinach. Put them all on a blender and voila! You already have your daily dose of detoxifying minerals.
Another detox smoothie/fruit shake recipe you can make is the strawberry weight loss smoothie. It’s called as such because the fruits used are known to aid in weight loss.
Mix a cup of frozen strawberries to half a cup of frozen sweet peas. Add 2 hearts of romaine and a cup of unsweetened almond milk.
The good thing about a smoothie diet is that you feel full even without eating anything. Because the texture is also rough, you somehow feel that you’re eating food, too. In this way, you don’t feel the need to eat three or five meals a day.
2. Salad Diet
Shifting to salads can be difficult. For one, not a lot of people feel fulfilled eating salads. It can also be quite pricey and difficult to prepare since you have to have more ingredients to gather. However, if you do have the luxury to do this on your own, then you might as well start putting salads in your diet.
One of the famous salad recipes you’ll come across with is the quinoa bowl. Quinoa is starting to make a name in the health industry. It has many vitamins and minerals you’ll get from this gluten-free plant.
Aside from this, you will also get your fair share of potassium, vitamin E, antioxidants, fiber, and all the essential amino acids.
Mixing quinoa with green leafy vegetables will not only boost your mineral intake, but it will also help reduce weight by increasing your metabolism. When your metabolic rate is high, your body can easily burn the carbs and the fats that it contains.
3. Low-carb, Low-sodium Meal Diet
The main reason why you stick with vegetables and fruits when you want to detoxify is that they are low in sodium and carbohydrates. Although some fruits have sugar in them, they are all natural and come in healthy amounts.
What you are trying to avoid when you want to detoxify is sodium, artificial sugar, and excess carbohydrates. Meals that are rich in lean protein and fiber is preferred when you want to cleanse yourself from all the unhealthy food you’ve taken in the past week.
When you choose to move to a detoxifying diet, the majority of the food you will eat should have a lot of lean protein. That is why you would notice health-conscious individuals shifting to eating chicken breast than steaks or red meat.
In the end, if you have decided to detoxify for weight loss, you may have to always go to the toilet. This is natural since your body is flushing out all the unhealthy food you have consumed. Just keep in mind that you have to complement your diet by drinking at least 2 liters of water per day.
