The main issue why many Aussies and other individuals are getting larger every year is an imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure. When we talk about energy intake we talk about the food that we eat.
Food contains energy whether it is from carbohydrates, fats, or proteins. Energy comes in the form of calories which we are all familiar with.

This is the fundamental reason why we tend to grow in dress size. As a rule, the more excess calories we have in our body, the greater is the tendency that we grow bigger and heavier. This should not be a problem if we also take care of the second element in the imbalance – our energy expenditure.
Most of us lead a sedentary lifestyle. We often find ourselves sitting all day long doing nothing. We are not using our muscles on a more efficient way.
We do not spend the energy that is present in the food that we eat. As such, the excess calories from our diet tend to pile up because we are not using them enough.
When we put these two together – too much calories and very little physical activity – we get what many of us today face. We become overweight and will grow in dress size to a plus.
We grow in size because we are consuming way more calories than our bodies need and not exercising enough to utilise these excess calories.
As such, if we can make a conscious effort in changing these two important parameters we can find our dress size to change from a plus to extra small.

We can make more sensible food choices by minimising our consumption of carbohydrate-rich foods. We did not say you should avoid carbs altogether because these foods provide you with the energy that you need to function every day.
Choose complex carbohydrates such as vegetables, fruits, grains, and cereals because these provide a more stable supply of energy. They will not create a sudden rise in your insulin levels that may foster the conversion of excess glucose into fats and glycogen.
Increasing your intake of protein-rich foods also helps because tis macronutrient takes a lot longer to digest. They also make you feel fuller so you will feel less hungry.
When it comes to fats, you can choose healthier versions like mono- and poly- unsaturated fats. They are good for your heart and can help you lose weight, too.
Changing Dress Size with Physical Activity
We also need to increase our levels of physical activity. You don’t need to go to the gym to improve your physical fitness. You can turn ordinary household chores into power workouts.
For example, instead of you driving to the grocery you might want to wear your favourite sneakers and start walking. A 30-minute walk can already help you burn up to 300 calories.
When you come from the grocery, resist the temptation to take the taxi. Carry your items with you all the way home. The walking and the carrying of your grocery items can target your muscles. You’ll be shedding more calories this way.
There are no shortcuts to changing from a plus size to extra small. It is in how well we watch our food choices and our ability to integrate physical activities in everything we do. Losing weight is not impossible; it does require patience, commitment, and discipline to make this a permanent part of your life.
