We now know that not all things that are super-expensive are of good quality. But, there are those who can truly justify their hefty price tags with an ingenious design and feature-rich product to give their clients true value for their money.

One such device that I’ve come across with and had the fortunate chance of trying it myself is the VP400 Vibration Machine from Sportstech. Sure, you may think that once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them at all. But, the VP400 is different.

And I can tell you honestly that this machine is worth every cent that you will spend. Here’s my review of this awesome, albeit pricey vibration machine that I personally believe Australians should seriously consider.

Overview of the Sportstech VP400 4D Vibration Machine

Sportstech VP400 4D Vibration Machine is currently positioned as a mid-ranged vibration machine with some of the neat features of high-end devices. It has a beefy construction, but not really as heavy and hefty as those in the high-end of the market.

What the VP400 boasts of is the use of 4D movements in its vibration plate which effectively combines the 3-dimensional movement of a true lineal platform with the see-sawing action of oscillating systems. Where other platforms have failed, the VP400 has been explicit in the frequency range of its platform.

There are 3 modes of plate movements, lineal-only, oscillating-only, and a combination of both for a 4D effect. The platform itself takes on a curved design instead of the more mainstream flat. The curved design of the platform allows for more efficient body movements while also ensuring better stability.

Under its robust construction is a pair of powerful motors that run either the lineal or the oscillating mechanisms. Running both motors produces the 4D effects that come with a frequency as low as 25 Hz to as high as 32.2 Hz. The 3D lineal mechanism provides the highest frequency, however, at 40 Hz which is perfect for targeting really large muscle groups of the body.

Sensational 4D Movements Paired With Sleek Modernity

The user interface on the VP400 is also fascinating as the display comes in full colour. Augmenting the interface is a pair of smart LEDs at the sides of the contoured platform. The colour of the LED provides visual feedback onto the current frequency setting of the vibration platform: green for mild, orange for moderate, and red for intense.

This way, there’s no need to be looking constantly at the large display just to check the vibration frequency that one is in.

When it comes to the controls, the VP400 offers wireless and manual modes. However, a lot of folks find using the smartwatch-themed wireless controls to be more appropriate for the device since it does gives them a sense of modernity. The touchscreen comes with capacitive technology so navigating the menus and settings should be fairly easy should you decide to use the manual controls.

The VP400 weighs in at 19.5 kilogrammes. It’s heavy, but not as heavy as other products. Its weight is what gives it stability and structural rigidity. It also features retractable wheels that can aid in its transport.

A Closer Look at the Features of the Sportstech VP400 4D Vibration Platform

Curved 4D Vibration Plate

Conventional vibration machines come with a relatively flat vibrating platform that runs parallel to the surface of the floor. The Sportstech VP400 defies conventional design protocols to give you a slightly curved surface.

It’s like a cradle that safely nestles your feet and also gives you that sense of stability since your feet will be somewhat angled slightly towards the centre. As such, when the plate vibrates, you will not have the sensation of being thrown sideways. Well, that’s how I felt when I first stepped onto the VP400.

But what I find truly remarkable with the Sportstech VP400 Vibration Machine is that it comes with four-dimensional movements. Typical vibration platforms come with 2D: either up and down motion or a see-saw motion. The former is called the lineal type while the latter is an oscillating type.

The VP400 features 4D movement, which is technically a combination of a 3-dimensional or triplanar movement with oscillating motions. One complete movement of the vibration plate involves the completion of these 4 different moves.

Highly Variable Vibration and Oscillation Frequencies

Something about most manufacturers of vibration machines is that they don’t publish their frequency ratings. This is not the case with the Sportstech. There are three modes of vibration movements in the VP400: lineal only, oscillation only, and 4D or the combination of both vibration and oscillation.

Each vibration plate movement comes in three different training frequency levels. The good thing is that you don’t even need to look at the LED screen to check which frequency setting you are currently on. We’ll have more of this later.

Lineal vibrations can be set to run anywhere from 27 Hz to 40 Hz while oscillations are generally for gentler movements at 6 to 10 Hz. The 4D mode gives you the chance to set it anywhere between 25 and 32.2 Hz. This means we are looking at more than 500 different possible vibration combinations. That’s how variable the vibration frequencies of this machine are.

Powerful Dual Motors

Obviously, the VP400 runs on two motors, one each to provide power to its lineal and oscillating mechanisms. The motors are designed to provide 3 x 60 variable speed settings to get you that intense workout that you need in a fraction of the time.

The implications are immense. If lineal vibrations are perfect for targeting large groups of muscles while oscillating vibrations are ideal for muscle strengthening and toning, then combining these two vibration movements can really spell a lot of benefits even for the seasoned athlete.

Smart LED, Coloured Display, and Intuitive Controls

I did mention above that there’s no need to be constantly checking on the information displayed in the coloured display since the VP400 already comes with an integrated smart LED technology that corresponds to the three levels of vibration frequencies.

Aptly coloured green for mild vibrations, orange for moderate vibrations, and red for intense vibrations, the VP400 instantly gives you visual feedback on your current frequency setting. There are two coloured LED strips on both sides of the curved VP400 platform. The light is bright enough for easy visualisation. It can be a very interesting “mood” light, too.

The coloured touchscreen display is something else. Unlike other machines in the market, it comes in full colour resembling the bar graph of an acoustics setting. Controlling the VP400 is also made more high-tech.

Other machines come with a standard brick-type remote. This vibration machine comes with a remote in the form of a smartwatch. At least, you can easily strap the watch onto your wrist and start exercising.

Durable, Reliable, and Sturdy Construction

At 19.5 kilogrammes, the VP400 is not your portable machine; although, you’re welcome to challenge yourself to pick up and move this exercise equipment from one room to the next.

The good news is that you don’t need to carry it since it already comes with retractable transport wheels. When fully retracted, it offers a very stable, skid-free platform to stand on. Extend the wheels and you can easily roll it to your storage compartment.

It is quite bulky, too, covering 78 centimetres by 46 centimetres of floor space. That being said, it may not be a good idea for those who live in really cramped spaces or for individuals who simply don’t have the space to put this behemoth in.

On a plus note, you can actually sit on the extra-large surface area of the VP400. It’s perfect for those who want to assume a yoga-like sitting position while receiving intense vibrations from the machine.

Personalised Entertainment

Integrated into the design of the VP400 is a Bluetooth speaker that seamlessly connects to smartphones, tablets, and other devices that have the wireless technology. Mind you, this is not a music device but it does produce good quality highs and deep-enough bass to get you in the groove while you’re busy with your exercise regimen. It is not the best, but it sure is better than most even at this price range.
