Amazon Prime Day 2020: Anticipated Health and Fitness Deals
With most of us staying at home and observing health protocols, online shopping is in demand more than ever. Shopping at reduced prices for huge savings is also a current trend. And so, it’s no surprise that most of us are reserving our big purchases for annual deal events like the Amazon Prime Day 2020.
American retailer Amazon initiated Prime Day in the United States back in 2015 to celebrate its 20th anniversary and offer a digital version of the infamous Black Friday sale. Since it started, several countries have joined in the shopping fun, including Australia. Our first Amazon Prime Day was in 2018. And while it’s supposed to be a one-day deal event, last year, it lasted for almost three days. And we, Aussies, are not complaining!
We’re hoping Amazon Prime Day 2020 pushes through this October. But check back on this page for the latest deals and exact date of the biggest sale event. In the meantime, while we’re patiently anticipating, here are a few fitness deals online we expect to see and add to our carts:
Headphones were among the top 10 internal searches made in Australia on Amazon Prime Day 2019, according to Hitwise. So, we can expect great discounts for wireless headphones, over-ear models or gaming headsets for 2020. Some brands to watch out for are Apple, Bose, Jabra, Beats and Sony, which all offered discounts on the previous years.
The Apple AirPods Pro, for instance, is perfect for a noise-free outdoor jog or run. Plus, the wireless charging case will keep it powered all day. The Jabra Elite Active 45e sports headphones, on the other hand, has its wires out of the way, so you can safely do heavy exercises. But, if over-ear headphones are your thing, noise-cancelling Bose 700 or Bluetooth-powered Sennheiser PXC 550-II is something to consider. The Bose SoundLink Around-Ear Wireless Headphone is also perfect for office work and home workout use.
2. Amazon-branded products
Amazon regularly offers discounts on its smart home devices, so we’re looking forward to more savings for Amazon Prime Day 2020. In particular, Alexa-enabled smart speakers, like Amazon Echo Plus and Amazon Echo Dot, were half their original prices on last year’s Prime Day in Australia. So, if you’ve been itching to get a Fire tablet for daily workout, a Kindle e-Reader for healthy recipes or a Fire TV stick for fitness videos, Prime Day is the ideal time.
3. Smartwatches or Bluetooth fitness trackers
Wrist-based devices are also one of the health and fitness deals to expect during the sales event. One possible offer to be excited about is the Apple Watch Series, which is arguably the best smartwatch range to buy at the moment. However, for Android users, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 is equally a good buy. Its heart rate monitor, ECG feature and a built-in running coach should set our hearts aflutter! Fitbit Charge and Garmin watches are also covetable items. Garmin, in particular, was recognised for offering the best deals on tracking systems for Australia’s Amazon Prime Day in 2019, including its Garmin Forerunner 235 and Garmin Forerunner 735XT.

4. Kitchen appliances
A fitness regimen is not complete without a balanced diet, after all. And Amazon Prime Day 2020 may be the ideal time to get the biggest deals on Philips air fryers, KitchenAid stand mixers or Instant Pot Duo multicookers. The Philips Premium Collection All-in-One Cooker, for instance, was at $194 from its original $300 value. With its set-and-forget system, you can let it do the cooking for you while you’re busy doing yoga. And let’s not forget about making those healthy smoothies and protein shakes after a good workout. Amazon Prime Day may be your chance to get a heavy-duty Vitamix blender for your benchtop!
5. Sportswear, shoes and training equipment
Select Adidas clothing and shoes had up to 50% off their full prices last year, so make sure to start listing down your top picks. And if you’re thinking of ramping up your home gym, Amazon Prime Day 2020 in Australia is likely to have great discounts on exercise balls, kettlebell weights, dumb-bells and cardio machines, too. You might want to check Prime Video as well for those health and fitness shows made for binge-watching!

FAQs on Amazon Prime Day 2020
This FAQ section should give you more information and prepare you for this much-awaited sales extravaganza.
What is Amazon Prime Day?
American retailer Amazon initiated Prime Day in the United States back in 2015 to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Amazon introduced it also as a digital version of the infamous Black Friday sale. The event was mainly to drive its Prime membership count, thank its members, generate sales and shift lots of stock. Since it started, 18 countries have joined in the shopping fun, including Australia. Our first Amazon Prime Day was in 2018. And while it’s supposed to be a one-day deal event, last year, it lasted for almost three days (65 hours to be exact). And we, Aussies, are not complaining!
During Prime Day, several Amazon products, also item from other brands and third-party sellers, will be on sale. Sellers are reserving their best deals for the event to make the most of the extra online traffic. So, we’re expecting a deals bonanza for cameras, headphones, fitness equipment, coffee machines, gaming consoles, televisions and more.
Are Amazon Prime Day deals competitive?
Yes! On Prime Day, expect products to be on their lowest prices ever, besting even some of Black Friday’s items. Consumer tech products, in particular, typically have the best prices during the event. Amazon’s products are also among the most sought-after. The retail giant usually puts its devices on price drops up to 28% throughout the year. However, Prime Day shoppers can get some of these for up to 35% off.
It’s highly likely to get great discounts from big brands like Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and Nintendo, too. Other product categories joining the sale race include beauty, home and kitchen items. The best thing is, Amazon Prime Day usually creates a domino effect among other Aussie retailers. With shoppers going all-out on their shopping, merchants outside Amazon will likely take advantage and scramble to price-match. So, make sure to check on what the competitors have to offer to score even more deals!
When is Amazon Prime Day 2020 in Australia?
The Amazon Prime Day 2020 event in Australia is set to start on 13 October at 12:00AM AEDT through to 14 October 2020 11:59PM AEDT. Prime members will also get an extra 18 hours of deals on 15 October 2020 through the Amazon global store.
Will Amazon Prime Day 2020 be another 2-day event?
With Black Friday season just around the corner, it’s likely for Amazon Prime Day 2020 to scale back and stick to being a one-day affair. Not everyone can spend on two major shopping events so close to one another, after all. It will only mean sale fatigue for us. Plus, we need time for our bank balances to recover.
But then again, Amazon Prime Day 2019 was a record-breaking success. The event sold 175 million items worldwide, totalling to over US $7 billion in sales. Buyers, on the other hand, enjoyed making more than US $1 billion in savings. Here in Australia, both Nintendo and Samsung had page views nearing 100,000 during last year’s Prime Day. Also, Amazon Australia recorded a staggering 359% growth in reach between 2018 and 2019, plus US $2 million worth of sales.
Without a doubt, shoppers will be just as excited to go on spree yet again for Amazon Prime Day 2020, extended or not. We’re rooting for a multi-day sale event, of course. But for now, we’ll have to wait for official reports and schedules.
What are some Amazon Prime Day 2020 shopping tips?
Amazon has a knack for keeping Amazon Prime Day details secret, including the deals lined up for the event. So, you and your computer should both be on your toes to snag the best items as they sell out fast. Here are some more tips to get you shopping-ready!
1. Sign up for an Amazon Prime membership
Shopping for Prime Day is a members-only privilege, so you need to do this before the event. Aside from Prime Day access, you get all sorts of benefits as well. If you haven’t signed up yet, make sure to reserve your free 30-day trial for October.
2. Download the Amazon app
Getting constant notifications can be disruptive, but not this time. With this app on your phone, you can organise all the deals you’re interested in and get notified in time for when they go live. To do this, go to the Deals section of the app, then click Watch this Deal to get instant alerts. Amazon sends shopping tip and tricks from time to time, too, to enhance your Prime Day experience.
3. Start creating your wish list.
With so many items on sale that day, doing this should give you some direction (and edge for those limited offers). Plus, with your Amazon app notifications on, you’ll get notified right away if an item on your list goes on sale.
4. Get acquainted with Prime Day’s deal types
Not all deals are equal, and knowing them helps you decide when to delay or click right away! For instance, before the actual event, Amazon will get its shoppers excited (as if we weren’t already!) with its early-access or countdown deals. Then there are the spotlight deals that last for 24 hours before or during Prime Day.
Once the sale starts, people can now shop for the Prime Day-exclusive deals. These items will run for the entire duration of the event, but some of them can quickly run out. What you need to watch out for, though, are the lighting deals. These limited-stock and limited-time items are the best among the rest and can sell out in minutes. If a lightning deal gets 100% claimed, though, you can still add yourself to the waitlist and hope someone changes their mind!
5. Shop around and read reviews
Just because an item is on sale, doesn’t mean it’s a good buy. Make sure to compare prices and check what other retailers have to offer. Double-check product descriptions and do a quick online search to see if the deal is worth it. Reading what other customers have to say about the product helps, too. Don’t let the frenzy get to you and have fun!
